International Intersectionality: The Importance of Identity in Education Abroad

Presentation Description: In this session, presenters will share common challenges of navigating intersectional identities in education abroad. Participants will share their challenges and stories relating to their and/or their students’ experiences in study abroad relating to their identities and possible solutions for students with similar challenges. Presenters will speak about the importance of acknowledging these intersections in study abroad.
Learning Objectives:
Provide an understanding of intersectionality, who coined the term, and why
Provide examples of the types of intersectional identities and how they can affect student experience abroad
Discuss solutions and strategies for students with intersectional identities when navigating new places
