The Evolving Study Abroad Office/Provider Role in Promoting Sustainability

Presentation Description: A presentation by representatives from the SUNY Council on International Education Sustainable Study Abroad Committee and CIS about the office/provider role in building sustainability into study abroad programs, focusing especially in pre-departure, in-country, and re-entry orientations for participating students. The presentation will draw from the Sustainability and Study Abroad Pre-Departures - SUNY Best Practice Guide and a new SUNY Sustainability Study Abroad Returnee Reflection template for students when they get back home. Both of these will be shared with attendees
Learning Objectives:
Work with office colleagues to build sustainability suggestions and practices into their study abroad program pre-departure orientations
Prepare students to practice sustainability while studying abroad
Encourage students to reflect on what they’ve learned abroad about sustainability and how to apply it to their practices when they get home
