J-1 Scholar Case Studies

Presentation Description:

During this session we will consider scholar issues through case students. You will have an opportunity to learn how others approach a situation, develop new perspectives, and meet other scholar advisors.  Participants will break into small groups and discuss cases related to J-1 scholars, including research scholars, short terms scholars, professors, and interns. Groups will present their discussion to the group at large.  Presenters will then provide considerations and their institutional approaches for each case study,

Learning Objectives:

  • During this presentation, attendees will consider regulatory 'grey areas' and difficult situations in managing a J-1 scholar program.
  • During this presentation, attendees will hear what others might consider relative to a variety of case studies.
  • After this presentation we hope that attendees will have met other scholar advisors that they can reach out to when considering unusual situations.
