Presentation Description: Managing study abroad requires walking the tightrope between the perception of “red tape” and implementation of “best practices”. In this session, we share insights about rebuilding faculty-led study abroad at a small community college in the post-pandemic era. Prior to the pandemic, there was less scrutiny of study abroad both internally and externally. The opportunity to rebuild allowed for the integration of best practices, which were often perceived as at odds with the status quo. Join us for a discussion of “best practices” v. “red tape” and what we’ve learned over the past two years.

Understand how a small community college rebuilt in-house, short-term, faculty-led study abroad experiences.
Identify strategies for increasing stakeholder awareness and implementation of best practices for faculty-led study abroad.
Identify 1-3 Education Abroad wish-list items on your campus and the allies who might assist with their implementation.
