Risk Management in International Education

Presentation Description: This session will focus on the risks associated with International Education to include the health and safety of students, faculty, and others; reputational risks to the institution; financial risks to the program and institution; regulatory and legal risk; and personal liability. The session will provide perspectives from a variety of institutional sizes with varying scopes of international activities including study abroad, international students and scholars, international collaborations, and global research.

Learning Objectives:

  • understand the variety of risks associated with administering international programs, conducting international research, and enrolling students from across the globe.
  • apply techniques to mitigate the risks of organizing and administering international programs, research, and student enrollment.
  • explore the scope and potential harm to their home institution by offering international educational programming (inbound and outbound), engaging in international and global research, and creating international partnerships.
