Alexis Akagawa is the Senior International Student Advisor at Columbia University where she provides a high volume of international students advisory and documentation services. Alexis was NAFSA Minnesota State Whip and instrumental in enacting a gubernatorial resolution and house and senate proclamation supporting international education. She was named the 2022 NAFSA Advocate of the Year for her outstanding commitment to engaging with federal officials to advance the field. She was co-leader in 2024 to Albany, New York for the first NAFSA Region to lead an advocacy field trip to a state capitol.
